Are Project Management Skills Part of Your Future?

I would suggest that your answer be “Yes, project management skills are definitely part of my future!”

Project management is hot! We are surrounded by projects – at work, at home, in our community and with our volunteer organizations. Our economy is now being driven by projects. So why not learn the fundamental concepts of project management principles so that you can contribute to the success of the project along with your colleagues, teams, family, friends, neighbors and volunteers?

It’s important to know, and understand, that project management skills are valuable to all roles and in all industries – publishing, energy, banking, healthcare, local, state and federal government agencies, non-profits, retail, real estate, telecommunications…and the list goes on.

The definition of a project is “a temporary endeavor with a beginning and an end that produces a unique product, service or result,” which can apply to a lot of different projects:

·      Establishing a new onboarding process for new employees or volunteers

·      Planning a local community garden

·      Moving all of your staff to work remotely (sound familiar?)

·      Researching how to plan and implement a food drive in your town/city

·      Purchasing new company cars, trailers, office equipment or furniture

·      Establishing a vendor program for the company

·      Developing a rewards and recognition program for the association

·      Identifying a new collaboration tool that can be used for the organization

·      Completing a strategic plan for the volunteer team

·      Replacing all of the sidewalks around the apartment complex

·      Planning an annual event, conference or All-Hands meeting

Based on the definition of project, what projects are you working on? Have you been provided with the training you need to help you and your colleagues succeed in completing this project?

Over the years I have witnessed more and more organizations absorbing their projects. Which means that employees are frequently being asked to manage projects along with their daily responsibilities. Some of these employees get training, or coaching, from a project management consultant. However, most employees are not provided with any tools, templates or resources.

My mission is to address this need and help individuals be successful with their projects. I do this by providing them with the tools they need to hit the ground running. I want to provide the newly branded Project Leads with the information they need to be successful. This is the reason I wrote and published The Project Roadmap – Your Hands-On Guide to Initiating, Planning, Executing, and Completing Projects. This interactive workbook is filled with checklists, action items, tips and definitions. Everything you need to be successful with that new project!

Everyone benefits from learning project management skills. Everyone.

I foresee that project management skills are an important part of your future. Go for it!
