2020 is coming...Are You Ready?

Now that it’s 4Q19, we’re all interested in assessing whether we’ve made the progress we were anticipating on our strategic goals for 2019. If your organization has not achieved the strategic goals that you identified for 2019, you’re not alone. Read on for some tips and techniques that you can implement in 2020!

Strategy Statistics

  • The Brightline Initiative research has found that the average organization fails to hit 20% of its strategic objectives due to poor or incomplete strategy implementation.

Actionable Solutions

  • Strategy review - Schedule some time with your leadership team to thoroughly review the 2019 strategic goals along with the steps identified to help achieve those objectives. The only topic on this meeting agenda should be the 2019 strategic goal review, lessons learned, and what you plan to replicate, or change, for 2020.

  • Implementation plan - More often than not, organizations are not prepared to deliver on their the strategic plans. Implementation planning is based on project management best practices. The organization cannot deliver on strategic goals without initiatives, or projects, to drive the change required to achieve those goals. If your organization is struggling to initiate the project activities related to launching the strategy effort, consider an assessment of your project processes, tools, and templates. Need a jump start? Consider using the Project Initiation Kit. This Kit, based on observations garnered during my 25-year career as a Project Manager, will help you and your team better understand how to get those strategic efforts underway!

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit (2017), 9 out of 10 organizations fail to meet all of their strategic goals

Don’t let your organization become part of this statistic. Develop an implementation plan that will support your strategy, and use project management best practices to help your organization succeed.
